In continuation of the implementation of the regional InQuire Migration Research Laboratory Program, the sixth session was held with participants from the countries of the Western Balkans and Türkiye, with the support of the regional WB-MIGNET network. The session was held online on February 29, 2024.
The sixth session was led by professor Dr. Saime Özçürümez from the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Science and Letters of Başkent University in Türkiye. Professor Saime spoke on the topic of forced migration and inclusion in the school system and shared her rich experience in researching this topic in Türkiye, with a special focus on the inclusion of migrant girls in the school system in Türkiye. Through a discussion with the program participants, the professor shared her practical knowledge about the challenges and obstacles in researching the inclusion of migrant children in the school system in Türkiye, both in terms of obtaining appropriate permits and in terms of collecting data from children and parents.
The presentation contributed to the development of the discussion on the specifics of research with and on children in general, and especially in the context of research on migrant children and understanding the specifics of culture and context.
