The seventh session of the regional InQuire Migration Research Laboratory Program was held in online mode. The session was held on March 7, 2024, with participants from the countries of the Western Balkans and Türkiye and with the support of the regional WB-MIGNET network.
In the seventh session, the participants had the opportunity to listen to the topic of internal migration and depopulation, using the example of research from North Macedonia. This session was led by Marija Ljakoska, PhD, an assistant professor from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Institute of Geography. Marija is also a member of the WB-MIGNET network, and from her experience in migration research, she spoke about the challenges in the availability of microdata that record internal migration and the solutions that researchers can apply to overcome these challenges. The participants had the opportunity to discuss the causes and consequences of internal migration to more developed and less developed regions within the country. Similar trends have been observed in other countries in the Western Balkans.
In the continuation of the implementation of the regional program, the participants will have the opportunity to hear examples of research from other countries in the Western Balkans as well as about regional projects that included several countries at the same time.
