Second Annual Conference of the Western Balkans Migration Network
“Migration in the Western Balkans: What do we know?”

The Western Balkans Migration Network (WB-MIGNET), in cooperation with the International Burch University (IBU), is organizing its 2nd Annual Conference in Sarajevo on 19-20 May 2017. The Conference is financially support by the Central European Initiative (CEI), Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees.
The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars and policy makers from the Western Balkans in order to create forum for exchange of knowledge and discussion of the issues that surround migration research and policy, to challenge existing models and discourses of migration, to address current policy challenges, and to offer solutions for more human treatment of migrants and better utilization of human mobility.
The Conference will gather more than 60 participants from 20 countries of the Western Balkans and EU. The keynote spekaers at the conference are Prof. Russell King (University of Sussex, UK), Prof. Aija Lulle (University of Latvia), Dr. Ferruccio Pastore (FIERI Institute, Turin), Tanja Dedovic (IOM, Vienna), Dušan Drbohlav (Charles University, Prague), Dr Natasa Gregoric Bon (Institute of Anthropological and Spatial Studies, Ljubljana) and Andrei Yeliseyeu (Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies). Besides researchers who will present their current research, represenetatives of many government institutions and international organizations, such as Swiss Development Cooperation, IOM, UNDP, OSCE, BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed their participation. Discussions that will be held during each panel after presentations is expccted to result in a list of conclusion and specific policy recommendations that will be shared with partner institutions in the Western Balkans.
