The University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography and the Western Balkans Migration Network (WB-MIGNET) are organizing the Second Regional Winter School “Diaspora as a Potential for Local Development: From National Policies to Local Actions.” The school will be held within the framework of the global program “Migration & Diaspora” (PMD) of the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The participants of the school (a total of 30 people) are representatives of local governments from the region (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro). The exact dates of the school are November 18 and 19, 2021 (online) and November 23 and 24, 2021 (in person at the “Mona” hotel in Zlatibor). Please note that no special software installation will be required to follow the online sessions. Additionally, the online (theoretical) part of the school serves as preparation for the practical discussions and workshops that will take place in person. During the in-person sessions in Zlatibor, all current epidemiological measures will be strictly followed.
The objective of the school is to strengthen the capacities of employees in local government units to recognize the significance of the diaspora’s role in development processes, with a particular focus on the potential economic contributions of the diaspora, as well as the transfer of knowledge, skills, and technology.
